General machine parameter CANSPEED
5.3 General machine parameter CANSPEED
The CAN bus transmission speed for the digital drives must be set on the CNC side through
parameter CANSPEED (P169).
The transmission speed depends on the length of the cable or total CAN connection distance.
For BCSD drives, only 1 Mbps or 500 Kbps make sense. But it is suggested to always set it to
1 Mbps. 500 Kbps may be used only when the cable is longer than 20 m, but it will affect the maximum
number of elements to connect.
The number of elements available at the CAN bus for a speed of 1Mbit/s and depending on loop
time will be:
Neither the fast channel nor the oscilloscope will be available when setting LOOPTIME = 6 ms and
having 6 elements at the bus.
Value Meaning
0 1 Mbit/s. Maximum distance: 20 meters.
2 500 kbit/s. Maximum distance: 95 meters.
LOOPTIME (P72) Number of elements
4 ms 4 elements (axes + spindles).
5 ms 5 elements (axes + spindles).
6 ms 6 elements (axes + spindles).
2 or 3 ms Not allowed.
