6.9.4 G5 Diode Installation (Both Wire types)
Figure 6-10 shows the installation procedure for the diode into the wiring harness. Figure 6-11 shows the
placement of the diode on the power input for the G5.

POWER DIODE BUILD UP
STEPS FOR COMPONENT BUILDUP:
1. SOLDER COMPONENT TO WIRE PER SAE AS4461.
NOTE: ACCEPTABLE SOLDER TYPES ARE SN60 OR SN63. CLEAN FLUX RESIDUES USING AN APPROPRIATE FLUX CLEANER.
2. COVER COMPONENT AND AT LEAST 0.5 INCH OF WIRE ON EACH SIDE OF COMPONENT LEADS WITH HEATSHRINK AS SHOWN
ABOVE. SHRINK IN PLACE.
NOTE 1: THE "-Y" CHARACTER IS FOR COLOR OF HEASHRINK, COLOR OF HEATSHRINK IS THE INSTALLERS CHOICE.
NOTE 2: FOR THE DIODE, MARK THE BANDED END OF THE DIODE ON THE HEATSHRINK WITH PERMANENT INK.
3. BEND COMPONENT LEADS BACK OVER THE COMPONENT, BEND MUST BEGIN A MINIMUM OF 0.25 INCH FROM THE COMPONENT.
4. SECURE TO BUNDLE WITH CABLE TIES ON EITHER SIDE OF THE COMPONENT.
NOTE: THE "-Y" CHARACTER IN THE CABLE TIE P/N IS FOR COLOR, COLOR OF CABLE TIE IS THE INSTALLERS CHOICE.
ENSURE BANDED END OF DIODE IS CONNECTED TO WIRE THAT LEADS
TO G5. MARK THE OUTER LAYER OF HEATSHRINK WITH PERMANENT INK
TO INDICATE BANDED END OF DIODE.
