TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
The machine fails to come on when you
press the button.
Water or steam comes out unusually from
the steam nozzle
The espresso or coffee is not hot enough.
The coffee is too weak or not strong
enough.
The coffee flows too slowly.
The coffee is not creamy enough.
The coffee does not come out of the outlet
holes.
You used ground coffee instead of coffee
beans.
The grinder makes a strange noise.
The grind setting knob of the grinder is
hard to turn.
Steam does not come out of the nozzle.
Not enough froth on the milk.
The milk froth is too bubbly.
The Auto-Cappuccino accessory does not
suck in the milk (accessory sold separa-
tely).
The cleaning or descaling program refuses
to start.
You have filled the water tank, but the
warning light stays on.
You have emptied the coffee grounds
collector, the light stays on.
A power failure occurred during a cycle.
There is water or coffee under the machine.
The 4 red lights flash permanently.
Check that the power supply cord plug is correctly inserted in the socket.
In case of repeated runnings, some drops may flown out from the steam nozzle.
Change the coffee temperature setting.
Pre-heat the cups by rinsing them in hot water or under the steam nozzle.
Check that the coffee bean container contains sufficient coffee and that beans fall cor-
rectly into the grinder. Do not use oily or sugar coated or flavoured coffee / espresso
beans. Reduce the volume of coffee selected using the knob.
Select the strong coffee button. Turn the grinding fineness knob to the left to obtain a
finer grind. Prepare your beverage deviding it in 2 cycles by choosing the 2 cup function.
Turn the grinding fineness knob to the right to obtain a coarser grind (may depend on
the type of coffee used). Make one or several rinsing cycles.
Adjust the grinding fineness knob to the left to obtain a finer grind (may depend
on the type of coffee used). Change the Claris Filter (follow instructions page 7)
Make one or several rinsing clycles.
An incident has been detected by the machine during the cycle. The machine auto-
matically runs an initialization cycle and is ready for a new cycle.
Use your vacuum cleaner to remove the ground coffee in the coffee bean
container.
There may be foreign bodies in the grinder or not enough beans.
Check that the container is full and free of foreign bodies.
Contact your Krups Service Center.
Change the grinder setting only when in operation.
First turn off your machine and let it cool down:
- Clean out and unclog the outlet holes with the needle included (see page 11).
- Clean out and unclog the hole of the steam nozzle support pipe with the needle included.
Check that the steam is able to come out of the nozzle and unclog the little air outlet
of the steam nozzle if needed. Use fresh cold milk.
Change the type (1 or 2% milk) or brand of milk as appropriate.
Check that the two ends of the small stainless steel tube fit correctly into the flexible
part of the steam nozzle.
Check that the tube immersed in the milk is not blocked.
Check that the flexible tube is correctly fitted with the accessory to avoid any air lea-
kage.
First turn off your machine and let it cool before clearing the Auto-Cappuccino acces-
sory outlet hole.
Those programs are available only when the machine requests them ("clean" or
"calc" light on).
Check for correct positioning of the tank in the machine.
Check that the float at the bottom of the tank moves freely.
Rinse the accessory and if necessary remove scale.
Remove the collector, make certain that it is empty, wait for 8 seconds and then fit it
again.
Check that the cleaning tray is correctly pushed in.
The machine will re-initialise automatically when power is turned on and be ready for
a new cycle.
The drip tray is overflowing. Empty it and clean it.
Check for correct positioning of the drip tray.
Disconnect the machine, remove the Claris Filter, wait for 20 seconds and then bring
it back into service.
If the failure persists, note the number that appears in the display under the
servicing flap and contact the Krups helpline.
