15.1Checking the play in the throttle cable

– Check the throttle grip for smooth operation.
– Move the handlebar to the straight-ahead position. Move the throttle grip back-
wards and forwards to ascertain the play in the throttle cable.
Throttle cable play 3… 5 mm (0.12… 0.2 in)
» If the throttle cable play does not meet specifications:

Adjust the play in the throttle cable. x ( p. 83)
Danger
Danger of poisoning Exhaust gases are poisonous and inhaling them may
result in unconsciousness and/or death.
– When running the engine, always make sure there is sufficient ventila-
tion, and do not start or run the engine in an enclosed space without an
effective exhaust extraction system.
– Start the engine and let it run idle. Move the handlebar to and fro over the entire
steering range.
The idle speed must not change.
» If the idle speed changes:

Preliminary work
– Fold the seat up. ( p. 44)

– Check the throttle cable routing. ( p. 55)

Main work
– Move the handlebar to the straight-ahead position.
– Loosen nut 1. Turn adjusting screw 2 in as far as possible.
– Loosen nut 3. Turn adjusting screw 4 so that there is play in the throttle cable at
the throttle grip.
Guideline
Throttle cable play 3… 5 mm (0.12… 0.2 in)
– Tighten nut 3.
– Press and hold the throttle grip in the closed setting. Turn adjusting screw 2 out
until there is no play in throttle cable 5.
– Tighten nut 1.
– Check the throttle grip for smooth operation.
Subsequent work
– Check the play in the throttle cable. ( p. 83)
15.3Adjusting the idle speed x

– Run the engine warm and push the idle speed adjusting screw 1 all the way in.
– Set the desired idle speed by turning the idle speed adjusting screw.
Guideline
Idle speed 1,800… 1,900 rpm

Turn counterclockwise to increase the idle speed.
Turn clockwise to decrease the idle speed.
