Althoughyourcomputerisdesignedtofunctionreliablyinnormalworkenvironments,youneedtouse
commonsenseinhandlingit.Byfollowingtheseimportanttips,youwillgetthemostuseandenjoyment
outofyourcomputer.
Becarefulaboutwhereandhowyouwork
Storepackingmaterialssafelyoutofthereachofchildrentopreventtheriskofsuffocationfromplastic
bags.
Keepyourcomputerawayfrommagnets,activatedcellularphones,electricalappliances,orspeakers
(within13cmor5inches).
Avoidsubjectingyourcomputertoextremetemperatures(below5°C/41°Forabove35°C/95°F).
Someappliances,suchascertainportabledesktopfansorairpuriers,canproducenegativeions.Ifa
computerisclosetosuchanappliance,andisexposedforanextendedtimetoaircontainingnegative
ions,itmightbecomeelectrostaticallycharged.Suchachargemightbedischargedthroughyourhands
whenyoutouchthekeyboardorotherpartsofthecomputer,orthroughconnectorsonI/Odevices
connectedtoit.Eventhoughthiskindofelectrostaticdischarge(ESD)istheoppositeofadischargefrom
yourbodyorclothingtothecomputer,itposesthesameriskofacomputermalfunction.
Yourcomputerisdesignedandmanufacturedtominimizeanyeffectsofelectrostaticcharge.Anelectrostatic
chargeaboveacertainlimit,however,canincreasetheriskofESD.Therefore,whenusingthecomputer
closetoanappliancethatcanproducenegativeions,givespecialattentiontothefollowing:
Avoiddirectlyexposingyourcomputertotheairfromanappliancethatcanproducenegativeions.
Keepyourcomputerandperipheralsasfaraspossiblefromsuchanappliance.
Whereverpossible,groundyourcomputertofacilitatesafeelectrostaticdischarge.
Note:Notallsuchappliancescauseasignicantelectrostaticcharge.
Begentlewithyourcomputer
Avoidplacinganyobjects(includingpaper)betweenthedisplayandthekeyboardorthepalmrest.
Yourcomputerdisplayisdesignedtobeopenedandusedatanangleslightlygreaterthan90degrees.
Donotopenthedisplaybeyond180degrees,asthismightdamagethecomputerhinge.
Donotturnyourcomputeroverwhiletheacpoweradapterispluggedin.Thiscouldbreaktheadapter
plug.
Carryyourcomputerproperly
Beforemovingyourcomputer,besuretoremoveanymedia,turnoffattacheddevices,anddisconnect
cordsandcables.
Whenpickingupyouropencomputer,holditbythebottom.Donotpickuporholdyourcomputerby
thedisplay.
Handlestoragemediaanddrivesproperly
Wheninstallingtheharddiskdriveorsolid-statedrive,followtheinstructionsshippedwithyourhardware,
andapplypressureonlywhereneededonthedevice.
Turnoffyourcomputerifyouarereplacingtheharddiskdriveorthesolid-statedrive.
Whenreplacingtheharddiskdriveorsolid-statedrive,reattachthecoverofthedriveslot.
Storeyourexternalandremovableharddiskdriveintheappropriatecontainersorpackagingwhen
theyarenotbeingused.
