Ifyouhavecreatedarescuemediumusingthesecondaryinternalharddiskdrive,setthesecondary
internalharddiskdriveastherstbootdeviceinthestartupdevicesequencetostarttherescuemedium.
See“Selectingastartupdevice”onpage51.
Note:Thesecondaryinternalharddiskdriveisonlyavailableinsomecomputermodels.
Whentherescuemediumstarts,theRescueandRecoveryworkspaceopens.Thehelpinformationfor
eachfeatureisavailablefromtheRescueandRecoveryworkspace.Followtheinstructionstocomplete
therecoveryprocess.
Installingorreinstallingdevicedrivers
Beforeinstallingorreinstallingdevicedrivers,makesurethatyouhaveapreinstalledoperatingsystemand
thedocumentationandsoftwaremediaforthedevice.
Devicedriversforfactory-installeddevicesarelocatedonthecomputerharddiskdrive(usuallydriveC::)
intheSWTOOLS\DRIVERSsubdirectory.Thelatestdevicedriversforfactory-installeddevicesarealso
availableathttp://support.lenovo.com.Otherdevicedriversareonthesoftwaremediathatcomewith
individualdevices.
Toinstallorreinstallthedevicedriverforafactory-installeddevice,dothefollowing:
1.Turnonthecomputer.
2.GototheC:\SWTOOL Sdirectory.
3.OpentheDRIVERSfolder.WithintheDRIVERSfolder,thereareseveralsubfoldersnamedforvarious
devicesinstalledinyourcomputer,suchasAUDIOorVIDEO.
4.Opentheappropriatedevicesubfolder.
5.Dooneofthefollowing:
Inthedevicesubfolder,lookforaSETUP .exele.Double-clicktheleandfollowtheinstructionson
thescreentocompletetheinstallation.
Inthedevicesubfolder,lookforaREADME.txtleoralewiththe.txtextension.Thislemightbe
namedaftertheoperatingsystem,suchasWIN98.txt.TheTXTlecontainsinformationabouthowto
installthedevicedriver.Followtheinstructionstocompletetheinstallation.
Ifthedevicesubfoldercontainsalewiththe.infextensionandyouwanttoinstallthedevice
driverusingtheINFle,refertoyourWindowsHelpandSupportinformationsystemfordetailed
informationabouthowtoinstallthedevicedriver.
Solvingrecoveryproblems
IfyouareunabletoaccesstheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceortheWindowsenvironment,doone
ofthefollowing:
UsearescuemediumtostarttheRescueandRecoveryworkspace.See“Creatingandusingarescue

Userecoverymediaifallothermethodsofrecoveryhavefailedandyouneedtorestoretheharddisk
drivetothefactorydefaultsettings.See“Creatingandusingrecoverymedia”onpage41.
Note:IfyouareunabletoaccesstheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceortheWindowsenvironmentfrom
arescuemediumorrecoverymedia,youmightnothavetherescuedevice(aninternalharddiskdrive,a
disc,aUSBharddiskdrive,orotherexternaldevices)setastherstbootdeviceinthestartupdevice
sequence.Youmustrstmakesurethatyourrescuedeviceissetastherstbootdeviceinthestartup
devicesequenceintheSetupUtilityprogram.See“Selectingastartupdevice”onpage51fordetailed
