Only these tires allow driving safety systems such
as ABS and ESP
®

o also function optimally in win-
ter. These tires have been developed specically
for driving in snow.
Use M+S tires of the same make and tread on all
wheels to maintain safe handling characteristics.
Observe the maximum permissible speed specied
for the M+S tires you have installed (/ page 255).
If you install M+S tires that have a lower maximum
permissible speed than the maximum design
speed of the vehicle, ax an appropriate warning
sign in the driver's eld of vision. You can obtain
this at a qualied specialist workshop.
Once you have installed the M+S tires, take the fol-
lowing measures:

check the tire pressure (/ page 244)
R
restart the tire pressure monitoring system
(/ page 250)
Notes on snow chains

Vehicles with rear-wheel drive: if y

installed snow chains to the front wheels, they
may drag against the vehicle body or chassis
components.

Never install snow chains on the front
wheels.

Only install snow chains on the rear

Commercially available snow chains can come
loose and damag
e chassis components or
brake hoses.

Only install snow chains that have been

oved by Mercedes-Benz for these
tires.
For safety reasons, Mercedes-Benz recommends
t
hat you only use snow chains that have been
checked and approved. You can obtain information
about snow chains from any qualied specialist
workshop.

If you drive too fast with snow chains, they can
break, injure other persons, and damage the
vehicle.

Observe the maximum permissible speed

or operation with snow chains.

If snow chains are mounted to steel wheels,

he wheel trims can be damaged.

Remove the wheel trims of steel wheels

ore mounting snow chains.
Observe the following notes when using snow
c
hains:
R
Snow chains are only permissible for certain
wheel/tire combinations. You can obtain infor-
mation on this at a qualied specialist work-
shop.
R
For safety reasons, only use snow chains that
have been specically approved for your vehi-
cle by Mercedes-Benz, or snow chains with the
same quality standard.
R
The snow chains must be retightened aer
driving approximately 0.6 miles (1 km). This is
the only way to ensure the snow chains are
optimally seated with clearance to adjacent
components.
R
Vehicles with all-wheel drive: install snow
chains on the wheels on the rear axle. On vehi-
cles with twin tires, install the snow chains on
the outer wheels. Observe the manufacturer's
installation instructions.
R
Use snow chains only when the road surface is
completely snow-covered. Remove the snow
chains as soon as possible when you come to
a road that is not snow-covered.
R
Local regulations may restrict the use of snow
chains. Observe the applicable regulations
before installing snow chains.
R
Activate all-wheel drive before driving o with
snow chains (/ page 125, 126).
R
If snow chains are installed, the maximum per-
missible speed is 30 mph (50 km/h).
R
Vehicles with Parking Assist: do not use Park-
ing Assist PARKTRONIC if snow chains are
installed.
