When opening a side window, parts of the body
could be drawn in or become trapped between
the side window and window frame.
#
When opening, make sure that nobody is
t
ouching the side window.
#
Release the button immediately if some-
body becomes tr
apped.
You can ventilate the vehicle before you start driv-
ing.
The "convenience opening" function can be oper-
ated using the SmartKey without switching on the
vehicle. The SmartKey must be in close proximity
to the driver's or front passenger door.
#
Press and hold the % butt
on on the Smart-
Key.
The following functions are performed:
R
the vehicle is unlocked
R
the side windows are opened
#
To interrupt convenience opening: r
elease the
% button.
Closing the side windows from the outside (conve-
nience closing)

When the convenience closing feature is oper-
ating, parts of the body could become trapped
in the closing area of the side windows.
#
When the convenience closing feature is
oper
ating, monitor the entire closing
process and make sure that no body
parts are in the closing area.
#
Press and hold the & butt
on on the Smart-
Key.
The following functions are performed:
R
the vehicle is locked
R
the side windows are closed
#
To interrupt convenience closing: r
elease the
& button.
Adjusting the side windows
The side windows must be readjusted aer a mal-
function or a v
oltage supply interruption.
#
Switch on the power supply (/ pag
e 108).
#
Push both buttons on the power window and
hold f
or approximately one second aer the
side window has closed.
Rectifying problems with the side windows
A side window cannot be closed and you cannot
see t
he cause
#
Check to see if there are any objects in the
windo
w guide.
&
WARNING Risk of becoming tr
apped or
fatally injured if reversing protection is not
activated
If you close a side window again immediately
aer it has been blocked, the side window will
close with increased or maximum force. The
reversing function is then not active and body
parts may become trapped.
#
Make sure that no parts of the body are
in t
he closing area.
#
To stop the closing process, release the
butt
on or press the button again to
reopen the side window.
If a side window is obstructed during closing and
r
eopens again slightly, you can proceed as follows:
#
Immediately aer the window is obstructed,
pull the corresponding button again until the
side window has closed, and hold the button
for an additional second.
The side window will be closed with increased
force.
If the side window is obstructed again and reopens
slightl
y, you can proceed as follows:
#
Repeat the previous step.
The side windo
w will be closed without the
automatic reversing function.
The side windows cannot be opened or closed
using t
he convenience opening feature
Possible cause:
R
The SmartKey battery is weak or discharged.
#
Check the battery using the indicator lamp and
r
eplace it if necessary (/ page 47).
