4 Installation
When installing the camera and the software, it is very important to follow the correct
sequence. By doing so, you'll avoid problems with the installation of drivers.
A PCI-FireWire board is supplied together with the camera.
If a PCI-FireWire board has been supplied, please follow the installation order
shown on the left in the table below.
If a PCI Express-FireWire board has been supplied, please follow the installation
order shown on the right in the table below.
If your PC is not equipped with the necessary slots for the supplied FireWire board,
you can order a suitable FireWire board from Olympus Soft Imaging Solutions.
In the following, you'll find a description of how to install a PCI-FireWire board.
4.1 Step 1: Inserting the FireWire board
The camera is connected to the PC via a FireWire interface. Even if your PC already
has a FireWire interface, you (or the authorized personnel in your company) should
use the board that is supplied with the camera. When you do so, it ensures the
camera's full functionality and avoids any conflicts.
When inserting the FireWire board, please follow the instructions given by the manu-
facturer. Also pay attention to the safety instructions given below:

Danger of electric shock from a plugged-in PC!
When installing hardware on a PC, there is a risk of electric shock.
Be sure to disconnect the power supply before you open the PC!
Injuries caused by sharp metal edges!
The metal edges of the PC and the FireWire board are sharp. You can injure your-
self on them.
Therefore, take care when you open the PC and install the FireWire board. It's a
good idea to wear thin gloves when you do so.
