TRANSAXLE DIFFERENTIAL
DISASSEMBLY / INSPECT
NOTE
The pinion gear and ring gear are matched
components. Backlash is set at the factory. Transaxle
replacement is required if ring gear, pinion gear, or gear
case is damaged.
Solenoid removal is not required for case disassembly.
Proceed to Step 5 if solenoid service or inspection is
not required.
1. Drain and properly dispose of used lubricant.
2. Remove differential solenoid.
3. Remove spring (A) from differential cover and
inspect for signs of wear or fatigue. Inspect clip on
solenoid plunger and be sure it fits tightly in the
groove. Replace O-ring (C) upon assembly.
4. Remove (8) case screws. Carefully pry evenly at
reinforced areas to loosen cover sealant bond.
5. Lift cover straight off planetary differential with dog
gear (D) and shim(s). Note number of shims located
between the dog gear and bearing for assembly.
