E Glossary
Balance Sensor Assembly (BSA)
A component that senses the PT’s orientation and communicates with the CU Boards and motors to balance the PT.
Button Head Cap Screw (BHCS)
A type of screw with a rounded head and an indentation (hex or 6-lobe) used for tightening.
Chassis
The chassis is the aluminum base that all the other components of the PT are mounted to.
Console
The part of the PT that rests between the rider’s legs. It contains electronics and the pivot assembly.
CU Board
There are two Control Unit (CU) boards in the PT. These boards communicate with the BSA and the motors to control
the performance of the PT.
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)
The rapid discharge of accumulated electrical charge. To prevent damage to the Segway PT, a Certified Service
Technician should always stand on a static mat, wear a grounding heel, or wear a grounding wrist strap while working
on electrical elements of the PT.
Harness
A group of cables bound together to form one assembly, typically with connectors that plug or snap into place.
InfoKey Controller
The InfoKey Controller is a wireless device used to turn the PT on/off, change settings, and more. Each InfoKey
Controller is paired with a particular PT.
LeanSteer
The handlebar and related components used to turn the PT left and right.
Light Pipe
A light pipe is a clear plastic component whose purpose is to deliver light from an LED to another location on the PT.
Lithium-ion (Li-ion) Battery
A type of rechargeable battery in which lithium ions move between electrodes when charging and discharging.
Pan Head Cap Screw (PHCS)
A type of screw with a wide flat head and an indentation (hex or 6-lobe) used for tightening.
Personal Transporter (PT)
A self-balancing mobility device for one person.
Powerbase
The fully-populated chassis with BSA, CU Boards, and motors.
SEMS
A screw and washer assembly.
Serviceable Powerbase (SPB)
A stripped-down PT consisting of the powerbase, gearboxes, and console.
Socket Head Cap Screw (SHCS)
A type of screw with a cylindrical head and an indentation (hex or 6-lobe) used for tightening.
