4. Calculating Empty Mass, Empty Mass Moment and the Empty CG-Location
A. The following formulas are used to calculate the empty mass, the empty mass-moment and the
empty CG-location (Ref. Figure 201):
Empty Mass m [kg]:

Empty Mass Moment M [kgm]:

Empty CG-Location from the reference plane D [m]:

5. Empty-Mass and CG-Location
A. The current empty mass and empty-CG-location must be documented chronologically in a report
of empty mass and CG-location.
Every change in the empty mass or empty CG-location (which might be caused by changes in
equipment, repainting, repairs or similar) must be documented in this report.
If the cause of the changes is precisely known (mass and lever must be known; for example, when
changes in equipment are made), then new empty mass and empty CG-location can be
determined through calculations. If the cause of the changes is NOT precisely known (for
example, when making repairs), the aircraft must be weighted again.
6. Logsheet for Report of Empty-Mass and CG-Location (Ref. Figure 202, page 204)
A. The following logsheet describes the chronologic changes in the aircraft's empty mass and CG-
location. The logsheet can be reused for subsequent reports. These changes might be caused by
changes in equipment and / or structural parts (for example repairs). All levers refer to the
reference plane (RP): behind RP - positive lever, in front of RP - negative lever.
The first entries are the values determined during the pre-delivery inspection.
7. Logsheet for Weight and Balance Report (Ref. page 205)
A. A logsheet for Weight and Balance Report is provided on page 205 to 206.
8. Permitted Range of Empty Mass CG-Location (Ref. Figure 203, page 207)
A. The permitted range of empty mass CG-location is shown in Figure 203. These limits must not be
exceeded.

The aircraft's empty mass and empty CG-location are determined using the following method:
Every wheel of the landing gear is placed onto a weighing scale (left main-gear: m , right
L
main-gear: m , front gear: m ). The aircraft's longitudinal axis will be aligned in the manner
R F
described by the following diagram.
The reference plane (RP) is located at the leading edge of the inner wing at the wing root. It is
aligned vertically to the longitudinal axis. This plane creates a reference line on the ground.
Longitudinal inclination:
Place a wedge 1000:42 (2,4° = 2°26') on the rear fuselage-section. Align the top of the wedge
horizontally.
Keep in mind that the lateral-axis must be almost horizontal.
