HIGH ALTITUDE
OPERATION OF YOUR
OUTBOARD MOTOR
Your outboard motor is equipped with a carbu-
retor that is designed for proper engine opera-
tion at various altitudes up to 5000 feet (1500
meters) elevation. If you operate your outboard
motor at higher elevations, the change in air
pressure may affect the standard carburetor air-
fuel ratio and could make the engine run too
rich. This could decrease engine performance,
increase fuel consumption, cause difficult warm
starting, and may cause an increase in exhaust
gas emissions.
If the outboard motor will be operated continu-
ously above 5000 feet (1500 meters) elevation,
the jetting should be changed to the appropriate
high altitude specification that is available from
Authorized Suzuki Marine dealers. If you need
to apply these parts to your outboard motor,
Suzuki recommends that you have them
installed by an Authorized Suzuki Marine
Dealer, or a qualified service professional.
An action for the purpose of installing or modify-
ing altitude components and performing other
changes to compensate for changing altitude is
not considered a prohibited act under federal
law (40 CFR 1068.101(b)) as long as it is done
consistent with Suzuki’s instructions.
NOTICE
If you operate an outboard motor at low
altitude (below 5000 feet (1500 meters))
when the engine has been modified for
high-altitude operation, the engine could
be damaged from overheating, or there
could be excessive exhaust gas emis-
sions.
The jetting must be restored to the stan-
dard specification if the outboard motor
is to be operated at elevations below 5000
feet.
OVER-REVOLUTION
LIMITING SYSTEM
This motor is equipped with a revolution limiting
system which activates when engine speed
exceeds specified r/min. as mentioned below.
Over-revolution can result from cavitation when
turning hard, a propeller with a slipping bush or
worn-down blades, or a trim setting that is too
high.
If the over-revolution limiting system activates,
the motor will exhibit a rough running condition
and you must immediately reduce engine
speed to within the recommended operating
range.
DF4A 5100 r/min. (min
–1
)
DF6A 5850 r/min. (min
–1
)
NOTICE
If the Over-Revolution Limiting System
activates at recommended maximum
throttle and you are sure that the propel-
ler pitch is sufficient and there are no fac-
tors like “over-trimming” or “ventilation”,
there may be a problem with the Over-
Revolution Limiting System.
Consult your authorized Suzuki marine
dealer if the Over-Revolution Limiting
System activates for no apparent reason.
