Troubleshooting
Guide
Before
requesting service
for this unit, check
the chart
below
for a
possible
cause ol the
problem you
are experiencing.
Some
simple
checks or a
minor adjustment
on
your
part
may eliminate
the
pro-
blem
and
restore
proper
operation.

are in doubt
about some
of the
check
points,
or
if the
remedies indicated
in
the
chart do
not
solve
the
problem,
refer to
the directory ol authorized service
centers
(enclosed
with this unit)
to
locate a convenient service
center, or
consult
your
Technics
dealer for
instructions.

Problems
noted at all
times
No sound
is
heard when
the
power
is switched
ON.
The
power
cord
plug
is not
completely
inserted
.
Confirm
that
the
power
cord
plug
is connected
completely.
Connections
are
incomplete
or
Incorrect
to the
speaker
systems,
etc.
o
Check
to
be sure
that
all connection
wires
are
correctly
connected.
The incorrect
input selector
of the
amplifier
has
been
pressed.
.
Check
to
be sure
that the
correct
selector
is
pressed.
The speaker
selector
is set
incorrectly.
.
Set
it to the
correct
position.
When
listenlng to
stereo
sound,
the
sound
lacks
depth
(1.e.
thin
bass, tinny
sound).
One
of the speakers
is connected
out
ol
phase
[(+)-(-),
(-)-(+)].

Reconnecl
the speakers
maintaining
proper
Polarity [i.e.,
(+)*(+),
(-)-(-)].
When
listening
to stereo
sound,
the
lelt and
rlght
sounds
are
reversed,
The lelt
and right
speaker
connections,
source
connections,
or
graphic
equalizer
connections
are reversed.

Check
all conneclions
and
correct
them

necessary
A
low-pitched
noise
("hum"
ot
"butz')
is heard.
The
power
cord
or
a
fluorescent
light, etc.'
is
near the
connection
wires.

Try separating
this
unit as
far
as
possible
f rom lhe
electric
appliance.
Sound
is not heard

ol the speaker
systems.
The speaker
wires

disconnected.

correct
the connections
of
the speaker

The balance
control
is set
too
far to one
side.

Set so
that
sounds
are
heard
at the
center,

the
speaker
systems.

during
a

no sound
is heard
when the
power
is
switched
ON.

The volume
level
is excessively
increased.

Decrease
the
volume
level.
The
protection
circuitry
has lunctioned
because
the
positive
and
negative
speaker
connection
wires are
"shorted"
or
speaker
systems

impedance
less
than
the indicated
rated
impedance

amplitier
are used.

Switch
OFF
the
power,
and,
after
determining
and
correcting
the
cause,
switch
ON
the
power
once
agarn.
o
Use
a speaker
system
of
the
proper
impedance
rating.
While
listening to
radio broadcasts
A slrange
hissing
nolse is
produced
contlnuously
or
intermlttently.
Caused
by the
"discharge phenomenon"
and
the
"oscillation
phenomenon"
of
electric
appliances
(such
as
fluorescent
lights,
TV,
small seriestype
motors,
rectification
equipment,
etc.).

Try
placing
this
unit
larther away
f
rom
such
equipment.
.lnstall
noise-prevenlion
equipment
on this
unit or
on
the electric
appliance.
While listeninq to
AM
broadcasts
An
unusual
"beat"
sound
ls
heard.
Unit is being used
at the same
time as the
television set.

Switch
OFF the
television set,
or use
this unit
farther
away
lrom it.
A low.pltched
"hum"
sound
ls heard
when the
broadcast ls tuned.
The AM loop anlenna connection
wires

close to the
power
cord.

Place the antenna

wires and the
power
cord farther
apart.
The
power
supply
frequency
from the
power
cord
is modulated and
heard from the speakers.
