USB Flash Drive a nd Device Ports
Flash Drive Initial Read
Time
The oscillosco
pe reads the internal structure of a USB ash drive each time you
install a drive. The time to complete the read depends on the size o f the ash
drive, how the drive is formatted, and the number of les stored on the drive.
NOTE. To signicantly shorten the initial read time of 64 MB and larger USB
ash drives, format the drive on your PC.
Formatting
a Flash Drive
The Format function deletes all data on the USB ash drive. To format a ash
drive, follow these steps:
1. Insert a USB ash drive into the Flash Drive port on the front of the
oscilloscope.
2. Push the Utility button to see the Utility Menu.
3. Push File Utilities More Format.
4. Select Ye s to format the ash drive.

The oscilloscope can store the following types and number of les per 1 MB
of USB ash drive memory:

16 screen image les (capacity depends on the image format

250 oscilloscope setting (.SET) les; (See page 93, Save Setup.)

File Management Conventions
The oscilloscope uses the following le management conventions for data storage:
The oscilloscope checks for available space on the USB ash drive before
writing les, and displays a warning message if there is not enough memory
available.
Theterm“folder”referstoadirectorylocationontheUSBash drive.
The default location for the le save or le recall functions is the current
folder.
/usb0/ is the root folder.
The oscilloscope resets the current folder to /usb0/ when you power on the
oscilloscope, or when you insert a USB ash drive after the oscilloscope is
powered on.
