Maintenance
This chapter contains the information needed to do periodic and corrective
maintenance on the oscilloscope. The following sections are included:
H Preparation tells you how to get ready to do oscilloscope maintenance.
H Preventing ESD provides general information on preventing damage to
internal modules when doing maintenance.
H Inspection and Cleaning provides procedures for inspecting the oscilloscope
and cleaning its external and internal modules.
H Removal and Installation Procedures provides procedures for the removal
and installation of modules.
H Troubleshooting provides information for isolating failed modules.
H Repackaging Instructions provides packaging information for shipment or
storage.
Preparation
Only qualified personnel should perform service procedures. Read the Service
Safety Summary and the General Safety Summary sections of this manual before
performing any service procedures. Also refer to the chapter Operating Informa-
tion and your oscilloscope user manual for information about using the oscillo-
scope.
Preventing ESD
When performing any service which requires internal access to the oscilloscope,
adhere to the following precautions. These precautions will help you avoid
damaging internal modules and their components due to electrostatic discharge
(ESD).
CAUTION. Static discharge can damage any semiconductor component in this
oscilloscope.
H Minimize handling of static-sensitive modules.
H Transport and store static-sensitive modules in their static protected
containers or on a metal rail. Label any package that contains static-sensitive
modules.
