1.Removeanycorrosionfromthebatteryterminals,
andensurethattheconnectionsaretightbefore
jump-startingthemachine.
Important:Corrosionorlooseconnectionscan
causeunwantedelectricalvoltagespikesatany
timeduringthejump-startingprocedure,which
coulddamagetheengine.
Donotattempttojump-startthemachineifthe
batteryterminalsarelooseorcorroded.
DANGER
Jump-startingaweakbatterythatiscracked
orfrozen,orhasalowelectrolytelevelor
anopen/shortedbatterycell,cancausean
explosionresultinginseriouspersonalinjury.
Donotjump-startaweakbatteryifthese
conditionsexist.
2.Ensurethattheboosterbatteryisagood,fullycharged
lead-acidbatterywithatleast12.6V .Useproperlysized
jumpercableswithshortlengthstoreducethevoltage
dropbetweenthesystems.Makesurethatthecables
arecolorcodedorlabeledforthecorrectpolarity.
Note:Besurethattheventcapsaretightandlevel.
Placeadampcloth,ifavailable,overtheventcapson
eachbattery.Besurethatthemachinesdonottouch
andthatbothelectricalsystemsareturnedoffandhave
thesameratedsystemvoltage.Theseinstructionsare
fornegative-groundsystemsonly.
3.Connectthepositive(+)cabletothepositive(+)
terminalofthedischargedbatterythatiswiredtothe
starterorsolenoidasshowninFigure50.
