LONG PERIODS OF INACTIVITY
After a long period of inactivity of the
vehicle some precautions are necessary to
avoid any problem.
Further, it is important to carry out the
necessary repairs and a general check up
before the period of inactivity, since you
could forget to carry them out later.
Proceed as follows:
◆
Drain the fuel tank and the carburettor
completely, see pag. 82 (DRAINING
THE FUEL TANK).
◆
Remove the spark plug, see p. 54
(SPARK PLUG).
◆
Pour a teaspoon (5 … 10 cm>) of engine
oil into the cylinder.
◆
Rotate the ignition switch (1) to position
≈
∆.
◆
Press the start lever (2) a few times, to
distribute the oil evenly on the cylinder
surfaces.
◆
Reinstall the spark plug, see pag. 72
(SPARK PLUG).
◆
Remove the battery, see pag. 74
(REMOVING THE BATTERY).
◆
Wash and dry the vehicle, see pag. 83
(CLEANING).
◆
Polish the painted surfaces with wax.
◆
Inflate the tyres, see pag. 43 (TYRES).
◆
By means of a suitable support, position
the vehicle so that both tyres are raised
from the ground.
◆
Place the vehicle in an unheated, not-
humid room, away from sunlight, with
minimum temperature variations.
◆
Cover the vehicle avoiding the use of
plastic or waterproof materials.
AFTER A PERIOD OF INACTIVITY
◆
Uncover and clean the vehicle, see
pag. 83 (CLEANING).
◆
Check the electrolyte level in the battery
and install it, see pag. 75 (CHECKING
THE ELECTROLYTE LEVEL) and
pag. 75 (INSTALLING THE BATTERY).
◆
Refill the fuel tank, see pag. 36 (FUEL).
◆
Carry out the preliminary checking
operations, see pag. 47 (PRELIMINARY
CHECKING OPERATIONS).
WARNING
Have a test ride at moderate speed in a
low-traffic area.
