2.2. Operation modes of the UPS
UPS operating modes:
• Online operation mode:
• Online mode:The load is powered by the mains AC power through rectication and inversion. In
this mode, the battery charger will work when necessary.
• ESS mode: The mains supplies power to the load through the static bypass. When any abnormal
situation of the mains is detected, the system usually transfers to the online mode in less than
2ms. When operating on ESS mode, the surge suppression module in the system can protect the
load. The efciency up to 99% when UPS running on ESS mode, which can signicantly reduce
energy loss without reducing system reliability.
• Battery mode:The backup DC power supply provides power and is converted to AC power by the
inverter of the UPS. VRLA batteries are the most commonly used backup power source in this mode,
which is called battery mode of operation.
• Bypass mode: AC power is directly supplied to the load through the static switch of the UPS.
2.2.1. AC power online operation mode
In this mode, AC power is supplied to the system. When “Online Mode” is shown on the front
panel display, the input AC power is within the acceptable voltage and frequency range.
