4.4. Installation of external battery cabinet
Before connecting the external battery, please read the cautions and warnings attached to the battery
cabinet.
WARNING
• In the case of failure, the underpan or the frame of the battery cabinet might be live!
• Before installing the battery, please ensure that the number of batteries matches the charging
voltage settings.
• The battery backup duration shall not exceed 1 hour. If the battery backup duration of battery
preparation is to exceed 1 hour, please consult relevant professionals.
WARNING
Valve-regulated batteries are usually used in UPS equipment. The valve-regulated batteries must
be sealed. The gas released from the valve-regulated batteries shall be less than that from ooded
batteries. However, it’s necessary to reserve sufcient space for ventilation and radiation in the
battery installation plan. Valve-regulated batteries are not fully maintenance-free. It’s necessary
to keep them tidy, and check them regularly to ensure they’re tightly connected, and there is free
of corrosion. As loss of battery capacity is unavoidable during transportation and storage, make
sure that the batteries are fully charged before battery self-test, which may last several hours.
Through multiple charge-discharge cycles, the battery performance will be improved.
12 VDC VRLA battery is a default conguration for UPS. If you want to use batteries of other types, please
contact Eaton’s agent.
Steps of battery cabinet connection:
1. Shut down the UPS.
2. Check and make sure that all the circuit breakers of the external batteries are at off state.
3. Connect the protective grounding wire.
4. Connect the positive and negative poles of the battery cabinet according to the conductor cross-
sectional area of the cable and the cable size suitable for the protection device.
5. Please see the instructions of the manufacturer regarding the battery cabinet.
WARNING
Ensure correct connection of the positive and negative poles of the battery!
