2.1.4 Number of microinverters per branch circuit
Plan your AC branch circuits with the maximum recommended microinverters per branch (12
IQ8P-3P or 15 IQ8H-3P), with each branch protected by a 3-pole 20 A overcurrent protection
device (OCPD). In case you are skipping a connector, ensure each branch circuit has an equal
number of microinverters per phase (L-L connection), that is, L1-L2, L2-L3, and L3-L1. You can
check the marking on connectors C1(L1-L2), C2(L2-L3), and C3(L3-L1) to count the number of
microinverters per phase in a branch circuit. For connector marking details, see Figure 4.

2.1.5 Grounding considerations
The Enphase IQ8 Commercial Microinverters do not require grounding electrode conductors
(GEC) nor equipment grounding conductors (EGC). Your Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)
may require you to bond the mounting bracket to the racking. If so, use UL2703 hardware or star
washers.
The microinverter has a Class II double-insulated rating, which includes ground fault protection
(GFP). To support GFP, use only PV modules equipped with DC cables labeled PV Wire or PV
Cable.
2.2 AC cable and accessories
QD Cable is a 12 AWG cable with four conductors for L1, L2, L3, and neutral sense. QD Cable has
power on two phases, sensing on the remaining phase and neutral for phase loss detection. This
arrangement alternates between connectors for each drop to achieve self-phase balancing. The
QD Cable 4-pin male connectors plug directly into the IQ8 Commercial Microinverters, whose
double insulated rating requires no grounding conductors.
Each connector on the QD Cable is marked with phase ID C1, C2, and C3, with each connector
type connected to C1(L1-L2), C2(L2-L3), and C3(L3-L1) as shown in Figure 4. A similar phase
rotation arrangement continues throughout the cable. For a detailed understanding of phase
