Check
1)
Run the outboard motor in an outboard test tank with the
water at least 4 inches above the antiventilation plate.
Allow the engine
to
warm up
to
normal operating temper-
ature.
If
the engine must be running, make sure the area
is
well ventilated.

Stop the engine and remove the engine cover. Hold the

Remove the dipstick and wipe it clean.

Insert the dipstick all the way in, then pull it out and check
the oil level. Check the engine oil condition, change the
engine oil if it is stale or contaminated with foreign materi-
al.

API Service classification SG/SH/SJ
Use
a 4-stroke motor
oil
that meets

exceeds the
requirements for API service classification SG,

or SJ.
Always check the API service label on the oil container
to
be sure it includes the letters SG, SH or SJ.
Engine oil is a major factor affecting performance and
service life. Use 4-stroke automotive detergent oil.
