Starting Procedure
Thegenerator isequipped witha preheatfeature. Place
controller start switch in Stop-Preheat position for the
amountof timeshownin Figure 2-3 beforeattemptingto
start the generator set. This provides energizing of the
glow plugs. Do not energize preheat feature for more
than 20 seconds or damage may occur. Move the
Start/Stop switch to the Start position and hold in this
positionuntilthe engine is running,thenrelease. Donot
crank engine continuously for more than 10 seconds at
a time. A 60-second cooldown period must be allowed
between cranking attempts if the engine does not start.
If the unit fails to start after three attempts, contact an
authorized service dealer or distributor for repair.
Failure to follow these guidelines may result in burnout
of the starter motor.

NOTE
If the engine starts and then stops, allow the engine to
come to a complete stop before making a restart
attempt. Iftheflywheelringgearisstillrotatingwhenthe
starter pinion gear isengaged, the piniongear will clash
which may damage the ring gear teeth.
Stopping Procedure
Allow a brief cooling period by running the set at low or
noloadforafewminutesjustpriortoshutdown. Tostop,
move the switch to the Stop position and hold until the
set comes toa complete halt. If the generator set shuts
down automatically, identify and correct the problem
before attempting to restart.
NOTE
Do not placeStart/Stop-Preheat switch inStop-Preheat
position for more than 20 seconds or damage to the
preheat feature may occur.
