12.31 Changing the glass fiber yarn filling in the main silencer
Warning
Danger of burns The exhaust system gets very hot when the vehicle is driven.
– Allow the exhaust system to cool down before performing any work on the vehicle.
Info
Over time, the fibers of the glass fiber yarn escape and the damper "burns" out.
Not only is the noise level higher, the performance characteristic changes.
Preparatory work
– Remove the main silencer. ( p. 84)

Remove screws

Pull out inner tube

Remove the glass fiber yarn filling

from the inner tube.
– Clean the parts that need to be reinstalled and check for dam-
age.

Fit the new glass fiber yarn filling

into the inner tube.

Position outer tube

over the inner tube with the new glass
fiber yarn filling.

Seal the connecting cap

to the outer tube with sili-
cone.

Mount and tighten screws

– Install the main silencer. ( p. 84)
12.32 Removing the fuel tank
Danger
Fire hazard Fuel is highly flammable.
The fuel in the fuel tank expands when warm and can escape if overfilled.
– Do not refuel the vehicle in the vicinity of open flames or lit cigarettes.
– Switch off the engine for refueling.
– Make sure that no fuel is spilled; particularly not on hot parts of the vehicle.
– If any fuel is spilled, wipe it off immediately.
– Observe the specifications for refueling.
