Erasinglostorforgottenpasswords(clearingCMOS)
Thissectionprovidesinstructionsonhowtoeraselostorforgottenpasswords,suchasauserpassword.
Toerasealostorforgottenpassword,dothefollowing:
1.Removeallmediafromthedrivesandturnoffallattacheddevicesandthecomputer.Then,disconnect
allpowercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedtothecomputer.
2.Removethecomputercover.See“Removingthecomputercover”onpage51.
3.LocatetheClearCMOS/Recoveryjumperonthesystemboard.See“Locatingpartsonthesystem
board”onpage13.
4.Movethejumperfromthestandardposition(pin1andpin2)tothemaintenanceposition(pin2and
pin3).
5.Reinstallthecomputercoverandconnectthepowercord.See“Completingthepartsreplacement”
onpage76.
6.Turnonthecomputerandleaveitonforapproximately10seconds.Whenyouhearshortbeeps,turn
offthecomputerbyholdingthepowerswitchforapproximatelyveseconds.
7.Repeatstep1throughstep2.
8.MovetheClearCMOS/Recoveryjumperbacktothestandardposition(pin1andpin2).
9.Reinstallthecomputercoverandconnectthepowercord.See“Completingthepartsreplacement”
onpage76.
Enablingordisablingadevice
Thissectionprovidesinformationonhowtoenableordisableuseraccesstothefollowingdevices:
USBSetupUsethisoptiontoenableordisableaUSBconnector.WhenaUSBconnectoris
disabled,thedeviceconnectedtotheUSBconnectorcannotbeused.
SATAControllerWhenthisfeatureissettoDisable,alldevicesconnectedtotheSATAconnectors
(suchasharddiskdrivesortheopticaldrive)aredisabledandcannotbeaccessed.
Note:TheUSB2.0connector(USBport3)ontherearofyourcomputersupportsthesmartpoweron
feature.IfyouconnectaLenovo-recommendedUSB1.1keyboardtothisconnector,youcanpoweronthe
computerorwakeitupfromS4hibernationmodebypressingAlt+Ponthekeyboard.Ensurethatyouusea
Lenovo-recommendedkeyboardthatsupportsthesmartpoweronfeature.Youcanenableordisablethe
smartpoweronfeature(enabledbydefault)fromtheSetupUtilityprogram.
Toenableordisableadevice,dothefollowing:
1.StarttheSetupUtilityprogram.See“StartingtheSetupUtilityprogram”onpage87.
2.FromtheSetupUtilityprogrammainmenu,selectDevices.
3.Dependingonthedeviceyouwanttoenableordisable,dooneofthefollowing:
SelectUSBSetuptoenableordisableaUSBdevice.
