It should, however, be observed that during the run-
ning in period the lubricating oil consumption may
exceed the values stated.
Quality of oil
Only HD lubricating oil (Detergent Lubricating Oil)
should be used, characteristic stated in "
Lubricating
Oil Specification, 010.000.023
".
System flow
The lubricating oil pump draws oil from the oil sump
and presses the oil through the cooler and filter to
the main lubricating oil bore, from where the oil is
distributed to the various lubricating points. From
the lubricating points the oil returns by gravity to the
oil sump. The oil pressure is controlled by an adjust-
able spring-loaded relief valve built in the system.
The main groups of components to be lubricated
are:
1. Turbocharger
2. Main bearings, big-end bearing etc.
3. Camshaft drive
4. Governor drive
5. Rocker arms
6. Camshaft
1. The turbocharger is an integrated part of the
lubricating oil system, thus allowing continuous
priming and lubrication when engine is running.
For priming and during operation the turbo-
charger is connected to the lubricating oil circuit
of the engine. The oil serves for bearing lubrica-
tion and also for dissipation of heat.
The inlet line to the turbocharger is equipped
with an orifice in order to adjust the oil flow.
2. Lubricating oil for the main bearings is supplied
through holes in the engine frame. From the
main bearings it passes through bores in the
crankshaft to the connecting rod big-end bear-
ings.
The connecting rods have bored channels for
supply of oil from the big-end bearings to the
small-end bearings, which has an inner circum-
ferential groove, and a bore for distribution of oil
to the piston.
From the front main bearings channels are
bored in the crankshaft for lubricating of the
damper.
3. The lubricating oil pipes for the camshaft drive
gear wheels are equipped with nozzles which
are adjusted to apply the oil at the points where
the gear wheels are in mesh.
4. The lubricating oil pipe for the gear wheels are
adjusted to apply the oil at the points where the
gear wheels are in mesh.
5. The lubricating oil to the rocker arms is led
through bores in the engine frame to each cylin-
der head. The oil continuous through bores in
the cylinder head and rocker arm to the mova-
ble parts to be lubricated at the rocker arm and
valve bridge.
6. Through a bores in the frame lubricating oil is
led to camshafts bearings.
Lubricating oil pump
The lubricating oil pump, which is of the gear wheel
type, is mounted on the front-end box of the engine
and is driven by the crankshaft.
Lubricating oil cooler
As standard the lubricating oil cooler is of the plate
type. The cooler is mounted on the front-end box.
Thermostatic valve
The thermostatic valve is a fully automatic three-
way valve with thermostatic elements set of fixed
temperature.
Built-on full-flow depth filter
The built-on lubricating oil filter is of the duplex
paper cartridge type. It is a depth filter with a
nominel fineness of 10-15 microns, and a safety fil-
ter with a fineness of 60 microns.
Centrifugal by-pass filter
As standard the engine is equipped with a centrifu-
gal by-pass filter.
This filter removes contaminants through centrifugal
force, and is used as an indicator on the correct
use of the external separator units.
