TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem Possible Cause Solution
Engine will not start. 1. Improper starting procedure.
2. No fuel.
3. Crankcase oil too heavy (cold
weather starting).
4. Clogged fuel filter.
5. Loose battery connections.
6. Weak or discharged battery.
7. Blown fuse in fuel injection
system.
8. Lost ECU power.
9. Faulty ignition relay.
10. Loose connections to distributor.
11. Faulty fuel pump.
12. Loose connections to distributor.
13. Loose connections to ignition coil.
14. Loose connections to fuel
injectors.
15. Loose or broken connection in
wire harness to ECU.
1. Review starting procedure in
Operator’s Manual.
2. Check fuel gauge. Switch to LPG
or gasoline.
3. Use oil with proper viscosity.
4. Replace the filter.
5. Check and tighten connections.
6. Check battery. Recharge.
7. Check and replace fuse.
8. Check for voltage between 14 ga.
red wire at the start and ground
wire at the engine.
9. Turn the ignition key to the ON
position and listen for a click in the
ignition relay. No click, replace the
relay.
10. Check and tighten.
11. Fuel pump should run for several
seconds when ignition key is on
(gasoline mode).
12. Check and tighten.
13. Check and tighten.
14. Check and tighten.
15. Check and tighten.
Rough/Unstable idle. 1. Low fuel level.
2. Loose or damaged rubber vacuum
hoses.
3. Faulty spark plugs or wires.
4. High fuel return pressure.
5. Disconnected engine temperature
sensor.
6. Incorrect engine timing.
1. Check fuel level.
2. Check, connect or replace.
3. Check and replace.
4. Less than 5 psi (34 kPa) is OK.
5. Check and connect.
6. Check engine timing and adjust.
Poor acceleration.
1. Air filter
plugged.
2. Plugged fuel
filter.
3. Incorrect engine timing.
1. Replace.
2. Replace if plugged or marginal.
3. Check engine timing and adjust.
