Servicing Fan Modules (Switch Chassis)
A switch chassis contains 36 fans modules. Each switch unit has 6 dedicated fan modules.
The server will continue to operate at full capacity with 5 of the 6 fan modules operating for
each switch unit. If the server is operating with one or more switch units that have only 5 fan
modules, and one or more of those fan modules fails, the server will continue operating until
defined temperature thresholds are exceeded, at which point the server will perform a graceful
shutdown.
For the location of the fan modules in the switch chassis and their respective labels, see “Switch
Chassis Rear Components (SPARC M7-16)” on page 25.
Caution - This procedure requires that you handle components that are sensitive to electrostatic
discharge. This discharge can cause server components to fail. Follow antistatic precautions to
prevent electrostatic damage. See “Prevent ESD Damage” on page 61.
These topics explain how to service the fan modules in the switch chassis.
