control voltage sets the capstan or extruder operating midpoint and the PI feedback controller output
drives the capstan or extruder above or below this operating midpoint.
Note that the PI feedback controller output connects to an auxiliary control input (through R2) with the
same scaling as the primary control input (through R1) of the controlled equipment (i.e. R1 = R2). If
the scaling between the two control inputs is different, then the PI feedback controller gain must be
adjusted accordingly. For example, if R2 = 2 R1, then the gain of the auxiliary control input is half of
the primary control input, so the PI feedback controller gain setting must be doubled to compensate
and the control range must also be similarly increased. The system cannot function if R2 > 5 R1
since the maximum control range will be < 10%, which is normally not sufficient.
