ESP-LXIVM Series Controllers
Ping Valve/Sensor
The LX-IVM controller can provide detailed information on a specific
2-Wire Device.
This can be helpful to narrow a repair trip into the field to one 2-Wire
Device or a set of 2-Wire Devices on a particular branch of the 2-Wire
path. You can ping a Master Valve, Station, Weather Sensor, Flow
Sensor Interpretation of the results is essentially the same for Sta-
tion and MV Devices.
Turn the controller dial to Diagnostics
At the DIAGNOSTICS screen, press the Down Arrow key to select
Diagnostics, then press Next.
At the second DIAGNOSTICS screen, press the Down Arrow key to

The controller will ping the selected device and report a voltage
reading if the device responded.
Repeat this process to select another sensor to ping.
Interpreting Ping Results
• If the device does not respond verify the address and check the
wire splices.
• The voltage reading is a measurement of the charge of the device
capacitors. If the voltage is low, wait a minute then ping again.
• If the voltage is still low (below 23 volts) check the wire splices. If
the splices are good replace the device.
