– Remove the rope rotor – b 8.3.
The replacement spring comes
ready for installation and is secured
with a frame.
– Lubricate the spring with a few
drops of STIHL special lubricant
before installation – b 13.
: The frame (1) slips off as the
rewind spring is pushed into the
fan housing.
Press the anchor loop (2) into the
recess in the fan housing at the
same time.
The rewind spring may pop out and
uncoil during installation.
– If the rewind spring has popped
out, refit it in the assembly tool
1116 893 4800 as follows:
: Position the anchor loop about
20 mm (3/4") (dimension 'a') from
the edge of the assembly tool.

: Fit the rewind spring in the
counterclockwise direction,
starting from outside and working
inwards.
– Place wooden block

assembly tool to simplify this

– Slip the assembly tool with
rewind spring over the starter
post.
: Push the rewind spring into the
fan housing and then remove the
assembly tool.
– Install the rope rotor – b 8.3.
– Tension the rewind spring –
b 8.6.
