To maintain a hot, strong spark, keep
the plug free from carbon. Adjust the
gap to 0.7 – 0.8 mm (0.028 – 0.032
in) for good ignition. Use a thickness
gauge to check the gap.
FUEL HOSE
Replace the fuel hose every 4 years,
even if they appear to be in good con-
dition. Damage from aging may not
always be visible.
THROTTLE CABLE ADJUSTMENT
Measure the throttle cable play by
pressing the throttle lever. The throt-
tle lever should have 3.0 – 5.0 mm
(0.12 – 0.20 in) play.
To adjust the throttle cable play:
1. Remove the cover from the
adjuster.
2. Loosen the lock nut 1.
3. Turn the adjuster 2 in or out to
obtain the correct play.
4. Tighten the lock nut 1.
5. Recheck the throttle cable play.
Readjust it if it is not within the
specified limits.
6. Fit the cover to the adjuster.
0.7 – 0.8 mm
WARNING
Operating the vehicle with an
inadequate throttle cable play can
be hazardous.
Inadequate throttle cable play can
cause engine speed to rise sud-
denly when you turn the handle-
bars. This can lead to loss of rider
control.
Adjust the throttle cable play so
that engine idle speed does not
rise due to handlebar movement.
