ACTUATOR INSTALLATION
Do not mount the actuator in a location
which prevents operation of the emergency
lever and emergency manual shift lever.
This would prevent the operator of the boat
from being able to override the shift acuta-
tor manually if the system is not function-
ing correctly.
Observe the following requirements when
installing the actuator:
• Keep the actuator out of water or water
spray.
• Do not mount the actuator where ambi-
ent temperature is greater than 65°C
(150°F).
• Do not make sharp bends in the cables
where they enter the actuator.
If necessary, make the bend less by tilt-
ing the actuator.
• Do not loop the cables.
NOTE:
If necessary, use the optional actuator mount-
ing bracket (ABA-DSBKT-00-00). This L-
bracket will allow vertical mounting on a hori-
zontal surface or horizontal mounting on a ver-
tical surface.
RECOMMENDED JUNCTION UNIT AND
ACTUATOR LOCATION
The mounting location for the junction unit and
actuator should be selected with the following
recommendations in mind:
1) The shortest possible cables should go to
the motors, with the least number of
bends. Since the cables for the lower sta-
tion are usually the shortest, these cables
can be lengthened or bent, if necessary, to
produce shorter and straighter cables
going to the motor.
2) The cables from the motor must enter the
junction unit and actuator with as little
bend as possible. If required, mount the
junction unit and actuator at an angle to
produce smooth bends, even if this is not
cosmetically satisfactory. Do not loop the
cables into the motors or into the junction
unit and actuator.
3) If possible, mount the shift actuator unit in
the stern of the boat to allow for shorter
shirt cables.
WARNING
CAUTION:
NOTE:
If necessary, use the optional mounting brack-
et for the actuator, see page 27 for instructions.
