3.6.5. CHECKING END-OF-COMPRESSION PRESSURE
• Remove the spark plug cap when the engine is cold.
• Remove the spark plug.
• Fit a compression pressure gauge into the spark plug seat tightening the 10-mm spark plug fitting to the specified
torque.
• Turn the engine by means of the starter motor, keeping the carburettor fully open, until the gauge indicator reads a
stabile value. If pressure is over 8-9 bar remove the tool following the above procedure in the reverse order.
• If pressure is under the above value, check engine rotation speed during the test. If under 450 rpm, check starting
system. If engine rotation speed is right or just over the optimal value, check timing system.
• Ensure that gasket at cylinder bottom is correct.
• Also check thermal system for possible leaks (piston rings-valves).
