Configuring Traffic Shaping
Traffic shaping allows you to control the traffic exiting an interface to match its transmission to the speed
of the remote target interface and ensure that the traffic conforms to policies contracted for it.
Shaping performed on incoming and outgoing interfaces is done at the Layer 2 level and includes the
Layer 2 header in the rate calculation.
Restrictions
The bandwidth, priority, and shape average commands should not be configured together in the same
class.

• When you issue the end command, the system prompts
you to commit changes:

Entering yes saves configuration changes to the
running configuration file, exits the configuration
session, and returns the router to EXEC mode.

Entering no exits the configuration session and
returns the router to EXEC mode without
committing the configuration changes.

Entering cancel leaves the router in the current
configuration session without exiting or
committing the configuration changes.
• Use the commit command to save the configuration
changes to the running configuration file and remain
within the configuration session.
