4. Commissioning and Operation
4.1. Preparations
At the time of initial commissioning of a new or overhauled engine make sure to have
observed theTechnical information for the installation DOOSAN’s vehicle engines”.
z Oil filler neck on cylinder head cover
Before daily starting of the engine, check the fuel, coolant and oil level, replenish
if necessary.
z The oil level must be between Max. and Min. lines on the gauge. The notches in
the oil level gauge indicate the highest and lowest permissible oil levels.
CAUTION :
Do not fill above the top of the mark by over lifting. Over lifting will result in
damage to the engine.
z Cleanliness
Fuel, lubrication oil, and coolant should be kept clean, and special attention
should be paid to preventing the introduction of foreign materials when filling the
engine.
The quality warranty may get void for any trouble caused by using fuel,
lubrication oil or coolant not recommended by the company
4.2. Breaking-In
Each engine is operated for a short period before the final approval test of the engine
at the factory before delivery. Users should perform proper processes to break in the
engine for 50-hour's operation or longer to exert the maximum capability of the engine,
and to keep the life span of the engine intact.
4.2.1. Operation of a new engine (Break-in)
Because the sliding surfaces of a new engine are not lapped enough, the oil film can
be destroyed easily by overload or over speed and the engine life-time may be
shortened. Therefore the following things must be obeyed by all means.
Up to the first 50 Hr
z Engine should be run at fast idling until the temperature of the engine becomes
normal operating condition.
z Overload or continuous high speed operation should be avoided.
z High speed operation with no load should be prevented.
z Abrupt start and stop of the engine should be avoided.
z Engine speed must be under 70 % of its maximum speed.
z Maintenance and inspection must be accomplished thoroughly.
