Easy-Start ES Instruction Manual
Troubleshooting
SECTION 5
5-5
SCR Diagnostic Tests
E. Logic Board Digital Trigger Output:
Procedure:
1. Turn off all power to the Easy-Start ES.
2. Remove plugs J101, J201, and J301 from
the logic board.
3. Place a short jumper across resistors
R177 and R233. (This inhibits the phase
rotation and phase loss trip circuits.)
4. Close DS3-2. This defeats the energy
saver circuit.
5. Turn on the 120 VAC control voltage and
three-phase power.
6. Energize the start or HOA switch to turn
the starter on. (Make sure the RUN and
END OF RAMP LEDÕs are on when
taking measurements. Turning the TIME
pot full CCW will give a fast ramp-up for
taking measurements; remember to
return the TIME pot to the normal running
condition when the measurements are
completed.
7. Measure the 6 digital trigger SCR gate
pulse outputs using a multimeter on the
DC voltage range. These points are
available on the connectors on the logic
board.
Pin Number Pin Number
Cathode (-) Gate (+)
J101 1 4
J101 3 6
J201 1 4
J201 3 6
J301 1 4
J301 3 6
The voltages should be approximately 0.7
volts DC.
Replace the logic board if the correct
readings are not obtained.
Logic Board Voltage Measurements
The connector marked ÒJ4Ó on the logic board
can be used for options and test point voltage
measurements. J4 pin number identification and
typical test point voltage readings are shown on
Table 5-1. These readings can also be taken
directly on the logic board. The associated
components and test points are listed under the
column marked ÒLocation.Ó Whenever a test
point terminal is supplied, example TP1, its
location is also shown on Figure 4-14. There are
two ÒLogic CommonÓ test points on the board;
they are TB1- 1 and a terminal marked ÒGND.Ó
One of these points must be used for the
negative lead of the voltmeter.
If any of the above trigger output or test voltage
measurements are not correct, the logic board
should be replaced.
Voltage is applied to the starter during this test.
Exercise safe operation procedures.
