Removing a Mini-GBIC
ToremoveaMiniGBICfroma portslot,referbacktoFigure 33andFigure 34,and
proceedasfollows:
1. Attachyourantistaticwriststrap(refertotheinstructionsinyourantistaticwrist
strappackage)beforeremovingtheMiniGBIC.
2. RemovethecablesconnectedtotheMiniGBIC.
3. Locatetherelease
tabunderthefrontendoftheMiniGBIC.ForthetypeofMini
GBICshowninFigure 33,pushinonthereleasetabasfarasitwillgotoreleasethe
MiniGBICfromtheportslot.ForthetypeofMiniGBICshowninFigure 34
,pullout
onthereleasetabtoreleasetheMiniGBICfromtheportslot.
4. GraspthesidesoftheMiniGBICandpullitstraightoutoftheportslot.
IfyouarestoringorshippingaMiniGBIC,whichhasafiberopticconnector,insertits
protectivedust
covertoprotecttheendsofthefiberopticfibersfromdustand
contamination.

Wheninstallingtheswitchonaflatsurface,theinstallationoftherubberfeetis
recommendedtopreventtheswitchfromslidingonaflatsurface.Installingtherubber
feetisoptionalifyouareinstalling theswitchinarack.Toinstalltherubberfeet ,proceed
toInstallingthe
RubberFeet below.Forins truct ionstorackmounttheswitch,proceed
toRackMountingtheSwitchonpage 38.
Caution: Do NOT remove a Mini-GBIC from a slot without releasing the locking tab
located at the front of the Mini-GBIC. This can damage the Mini-GBIC. The Mini-GBIC and
its host device are sensitive to static discharges. Use an antistatic wrist strap and observe
all static precautions during this procedure. Failure to do so could result in damaging the
Mini-GBIC or host device. Always leave the Mini-GBIC in the antistatic bag or an
equivalent antistatic container when not installed.
