Forward Sensing and Reverse Sensing Systems
What are they?
• They’rebumper-mountedsensorsthatutilize
radar signals to detect objects in front of or
behind a vehicle
• Theyhelpaudiblyalertdriverstocertainobjects
close to the front or rear of the vehicle as drivers
back their vehicles up or slowly navigate into a
tight parking spot
How They Work
• Bothsystemsrelyonbumper-mountedsensors
that send out signals to help detect objects in the
vehicle’sintendedpath
• Whensignalscontactanobject,theybounceback
to these sensors and, within milliseconds, the
system calculates the distance to the object
• Thetonewillsoundwhenanobjectis6feetaway
or closer, and increase in frequency as the vehicle
approaches the object
• Thetonewillsoundcontinuouslywhenthe
distance between the object and the bumper
is 10 inches
• Whenthevehicleisequippedwithbothsystems,
the Forward Sensing System will remain active
even when the vehicle is in Reverse – a helpful
feature since the front bumper swings when
drivers parallel park

with an image providing vehicle centerline, rear
bumper orientation and green, yellow and red
trajectorylinestorelateanobject’sproximitytothe
rear of the vehicle
• Includesautomaticandmanualzoomfeatures
Pressing the up or down arrow provides access to
3 different levels of zoom
Image can be zoomed in on an object while keeping
the rear bumper in the frame of reference
Automatic zoom can also be selected with the up
or down arrow icon
Zoom feature must be re-enabled each time
vehicle is placed in Reverse
Forward Sensing System
• Alertsthedriverwithanaudibletonetocertainobjects
Will warn of objects approximately 2 feet directly in
front of the vehicle
–Willwarnofobjects6"to14"offsettothefrontof
thevehicle
• Audibletoneincreasesinfrequencyasvehiclenears
anobjectuntilitbecomesacontinuoustone
• Helpsmakeparkingeasier
• Systemisactivatedthroughultrasonicsensors
located in the front bumper when the vehicle is in
anygearotherthanPark(P)orNeutral(N)
• IncludedintheParkingTechnologyPackageonSEL
andTitanium
Reverse Sensing System
• Helpsmakeparkingeasier
• Alertsdrivertocertainobjectsbehindthevehicle
with an audible tone
