CAMSHAFT/CRANKSHAFT/ PISTON/CYLINDER HRN216
REMOVAL
1. Remove the spark plug (P. 3 -8 ).
2. Drain the engine oil (P. 3 -6
).
3. Tip the mower on its right-hand side so the carburetor is
facing up, and then remove the blades, blade holder
(PKA/VKA/VLA) or Roto-Stop (VYA), belt guide, and drive
pulley (VKA/VLA/VYA) (P. 4 - 1
).
4. Inspect the lower crankcase seal for signs of oil leakage.
If a leak is present, the oil seal should also be replaced
with the crankshaft (P. 10-8
).
5. Place the mower upright again. Loosen the fuel tank cap,
and then remove the top cover (P. 7 - 1
). Pull outward on
the four tabs from underneath them to release the top
cover from the fan cover.
6. Remove the five 6 x 23 mm bolts and the fan cover
(P. 7 -3
).
The recoil starter assembly can be left attached to the fan
cover.
7. VLA type only:
Disconnect the battery charger connector on the
handlebar, and then remove the 6 mm special bolts and
electric starter motor (P. 9-12
). Place a shop towel on the
mower deck and then rest the starter motor on the towel.
