5. Install the appropriate ratchet key into the axle shaft and
ratchet holder.
6. Apply grease to the spring groove on the ratchet holder.
7. Position the spring in the appropriate direction as described
below, and then expand the spring to fit over the ratchet holder
and it into the groove. Be sure the spring is fully seated in the
groove. Be careful not to deform or bend the spring when
installing.
There are markings on the ratchet holder that indicate which
direction the spring should be installed for each side.
N OTICE
Failure to install the spring in the correct direction will result in
premature failure to the spring or pinion gear assembly.
RATCHET
KEY
The ratchet keys are different
for each side and are marked
with an L (left) or an R (right) on
each key. Use the ratchet key
marked “L” when installing the
left-hand side pinion gear and
use the ratchet key marked “R”
when installing the right-hand
side pinion gear.
