MultiBoot
Bootable media and network interface cards (NICs) contain files
needed by the notebook to start up and operate properly. The
MultiBoot utility, disabled by default, enables you to identify
these devices and control the sequence in which the system
attempts to boot the devices to start up your notebook.
Bootable devices include optical drive discs such as CDs or
DVDs; bootable diskettes and SuperDisks; and network interface
cards (NICs).
Some devices, including USB devices and network interface
cards (NICs), must be enabled in Computer Setup before they can
be included in the boot sequence. For more information, refer in
this chapter to the “Enabling Devices in Computer Setup”
section.
Understanding the Default Boot
Sequence
By default, when more than one bootable device is in the system,
the notebook chooses the startup device by searching enabled
devices and locations in a predetermined sequence.
On every boot, the system looks for a bootable drive A device
first. If it fails to find a bootable drive A device, it searches for
bootable drive C devices. Drive A devices include CDs or DVDs,
diskettes, and SuperDisks. Drive C devices include optical drive
disks and hard drives.
