Ethernet usage
Ethernet is supported on the tape drive. The Ethernet port is for use in libraries, and for service. This
support will be as a Host (base only with no IPSec or IKEv2 support) by USGv6 guidelines and certified
under the MCP6.1 Certificate that was issued prior to LTO-6. See Feature switches. The Ethernet port
will support maintenance functions:
• Code upload.
• Dump retrieval.
• Statistics page.
• Maintenance menu through Ethernet port.
The Ethernet port is configurable through a mode select command. A Static IP will be assigned every
drive at production time or when being passed through CSP. The utilization of Mode Select to apply the IP
allows recovery of the drive no matter what the current IP address is set to.
ITDT and Library teams are being instructed on usage and requirements.
Features included:
• The Ethernet port does not perform host data transfers.
• The Ethernet port supports the IPV4 and IPV6 protocols.
• The Ethernet port supports service and debug functions with connection to a dedicated, noncustomer
network, typically a direct connection to a CE laptop.
• The drive supports a fixed, a set of configurable, local IP address common for all drives:
◦ IP address: 169.254.0.3
◦ Up to Two (2) configurable addresses.
◦ Each drive has a unique Ethernet physical address (MAC address). The address is determined
from the MAC sticker affixed to the logic card and loaded into card VPD at the time of manufacture.
• The drive will always attempt to use the 169.254.0.3 address and will also use the addresses that are
configured (up to 2). The drive will also perform stateless address configuration on IPv6 and will have
a link-local address (fe80::/64).
• The drive Ethernet port supports the TELNET and FTP protocol functions. TELNET provides the
engineering and service functions currently available on the serial port; FTP provides the capability to
download code and upload dumps and buffer images. Refer to Maintenance Information
documentation for additional usage information.
• The drive does not support DNS server access.
• The drive will support the DHCP protocol.
