4.3.6 Security
4.3.6.1 Authentication
Authentication allows the trunking radio and system to authenticate each other using the agreed encryption
algorithm. During authentication, the trunking system can authenticate the validity of the radios; or the trunking
radios can authenticate the validity of the trunking system; or they can authenticate each other.
The radio supports two authentication mechanisms.
Software Authentication is realized through software. The key is configured by KMC and pushed by Smart
MDM to the radio.
Hardware Authentication (for PDT radios only) is realized through encryption card storing authentication key
and algorithm, and only available for PDT radios.
Software Authentication
To use this feature, you need to complete the following configurations.
Configure the authentication feature through Smart MDM
Configure the authentication key and write it into the radio through Smart MDM and KMC.
This chapter describes how to configure authentication only. See 6 Key Management to configure and import
authentication key.
