troller or your mouse.
The automation will be recorded automatically as you play back the track. Of course, you
can also use the pencil tool to draw automation by hand!
7.3 Sidechaining
There
is a new feature in GUITAR RIG 5 that deserves an introduction: the Sidechaining
function allows the use of an additional signal (other than the one actually processed) to
control parameters of an effect, e.g., for triggering compression rates of a compressor.
Originally developed so that radio DJs could speak over music (the incoming voice would
limit or compress the volume of the music) sidechaining has now become a favorite tool
for studio engineers and producers.
In GUITAR RIG 5, a Sidechaining control is available in the Envelope, LFO, Input Level in
the Modifier section and in the Stomp Compressor, Tube Compressor, and in the all new
Fast Comp from the DYNAMICS section. Using the Modifiers together with Sidechaining
allows for new possibilities in sound design that go far beyond the often used Sidechain
compression trick. Please refer to your DAWs manual on how to use Sidechaining in your
favorite host. Of course, Sidechaining can also be used in stand-alone mode, but its more
obvious usage comes in the context of a DAW setting. To use Sidechaining in stand-alone
mode, you need to configure GUITAR RIG's additional Sidechain inputs in the Audio and
MIDI Settings dialog.
