Menu Guide—The Setup Menu
Format
Memory cards must be formatted before fi rst use.
For mat ting mem o ry cards is also an ef fec tive way
of de let ing all pic tures on the card. To for mat
a memory card, highlight Format in the setup
menu (
155) and press the multi selector to
the right. Press the multi selector up or down to
highlight one of the following options and then
press the button:
During Formatting
Do not remove the memory card, remove the battery, or unplug the AC adapt-
er (avail able separately) while for mat ting is in progress.
Before Formatting
Formatting memory cards permanently deletes all data they contain, in clud ing
hidden and protected pictures and any other data that may be on the card.
Be fore for mat ting, be sure to transfer to a computer any pictures you would like to
keep.
FAT 32
The D70S supports FAT 32, allowing use of memory cards with capacities of over 2 GB.
FAT 16 is used when reformatting cards already formatted in FAT 16.
Two - Button Format
Memory cards can also be formatted with the ( and ) buttons ( 21).

No Exit without formatting memory card.
Yes
Format memory card. Message shown at right
displayed while formatting is in progress. Do not
turn camera off, remove battery or memory
card, or unplug the AC adapter (available
separately) until formatting is complete and
setup menu is displayed.
