HVAC Products 4 EMC-compatible installation of SED2 26.02.2003
4.4.3 Cable shielding connections
The quality of the shielding connection to ground is decisive for the effectiveness of shielding. All shielding
connections must be “HF-tight“, that is, coaxial, low-resistance and low-inductance.
• The shielding should be run as close as possible to the device or the respective subassembly
• For IP54 versions of the VSD, use metal cable fittings as
depicted here for the connection of shielded cables (refer to
Mounting Instructions for EMC cable fittings)
Shielding
• For IP20 versions of the VSD of frame sizes A.…C, we recommend to use the optional gland plates to improve
the connection of cable shielding to ground of the VSD
• Avoid pigtails when connecting shielding. Use EMC earthing clamps, cable clamps or shielding connec-
tion clamps that ensure 360° contact (see illustration below)

Note: For SED2 IP20 frame size A…C, we recommend to use gland plates (available as optional accessory,
mentioned below). The gland plate simplifies and improves the connection of shielded cables. It allows for
better contact of the shields and thus optimizes the EMC behavior of the VSD.
