T his section of the manual contains α general summary
of instrument functions followed b y α detailed descri p tion of
each major circuit . Α basic block diagram, α detailed b lock
diagram, and the schematic diagrams are located in the
tabbed "Diagrams" section at the back of this manual . They
are used to show the interconnections between p arts of the
circuitry, to indicate circuit components, and to identify inter-
relationships with t he front-panel controls .
Digital Logic Conventions

Digital logic circuits p erform many functions within t he
instrument . Functions and o peration of the logic circuits are
re p resented by logic symbologyand terminology . M ost logic
functions are d escribed using the p ositive-logic convention .
P ositive logic is α system of notation whereby the more p os-
itive of two levels is the TRUE (or 1) state ; the more n ega-
tive level is the F ALSE (or 0) state . In this logic description
the TRUE state is referred to as HI, and the F ALSE state is
referred to as L O . The specific voltages which constitute α
HI or α L O state vary b etween specific devices . F or specific
device characteristics, refer to the manufacturer's data
b ook .
The schematic diagram number associated with each de-
scription is identified in the text and is shown on the b lock


diagrams . F or best understanding of the circuit b eing d e-

section use waveforms or other techni q ues such as voltage
