CHECKING AND CHARGING THE BATTERY
4. Disconnect:
• battery leads
(from the battery terminals)
CAUTION:
_
First, disconnect the negative battery lead

, and then positive battery lead

5. Remove:
• battery 3
6. Disconnect:
• battery breather hose 1 4
• battery breather hose 2 5

7. Check:
• electrolyte level
The electrolyte level should be between the
minimum level mark a and the maximum
level mark b.
Below the minimum level mark → Add dis-
tilled water to the proper level.
CAUTION:
_
Add only distilled water. Tap water con-
tains minerals which are harmful to the bat-
tery.
8. Check:
• specific gravity
Less than 1.280 → Recharge the battery.

1.280 at 20 °C (68 °F)
