Chapter 8 Considerations When Replacing POINT Guard I/O Modules
I/O Replacement with ‘Configure Always’ Enabled
From the Controller Properties dialog box, choose ‘Configure Always’.
When the ‘Configure Always’ feature is enabled in RSLogix 5000 software, the
controller automatically checks for and connects to a replacement module that
meets all of the following requirements:
• The controller has configuration data for a compatible module at that
network address.
• The module is in out-of-box condition or has an SNN that matches the
configuration.
Although chances are small, this allows the possibility of the wrong controller
taking ownership of the replacement module. Therefore, testing is required after
the download to be sure that this did not occur.
ATTENTION: Enable the ‘Configure Always’ feature only if the entire CIP
Safety Control System is not being relied on to maintain SIL 3 behavior
during the replacement and functional testing of a module.
